Valle Gran Rey is the most important place for tourists at La Gomera. It is located in the southwest of the island. The tourism is dominated by alternative tourists, mainly from Germany. The hotels and resorts are much more discreet than at Tenerife. But also the people are different.
Valle Gran Rey is divided into three districts: Vueltas ("Harbour"), La Playa ("Beach") and Calera ("at the hill"). For sailors, the most important district is Vueltas, because there is the harbour and an anchorage. The other districts are interesting for walking or swimming.

The harbour will be operated by a fishermen cooperative. It is built for smaller fisher boats. In the middle of the harbour basin, a lot of small motorboats are moored at buoys. Yachts will have just a few berths at the quay, where they are moored with anchor and a long line to fix the stern. Only at the south pier it is deep enough for yachts.
A few year ago, there was build a second, outer breakwater. The new harbour basin is built for ferries and not suitable for yachts. The only alternative anchorage is near the entrance of the harbour.
[edit] Approach
Approach is easy. Coming from the east, you can go directly towards the entrance. It is important to keep clear of the cliffs (stones and rocks!) and to stay on the left side in the harbour, because only there the depth is suitable.

[edit] Infrastructure
In Vueltas there are few small supermarkets near the harbour. Also there are some original bars. A bigger choice of restaurants you will find in direction of La Playa at the beach promenade, about 10-15 min. to walk.
[edit] Anchorages

The anchorage is a fair alternative to the harbour. The ground consists of black sand and offers good hold for the anchor. The depth is about 7m.
The bay is open to the south and the west, but offers protection against the trade winds from the north east. Because of the high cliffs (up to 800m) you should expect gusts from the top of the mountains.
