View to the town harbour of Symi

Symi is a small island, about 20 nm northwards from Rhodes. This island offers - especially at the east coast - various nice bays and anchorages. The only town at this island is also called Symi and belongs to the most beautiful places of the Dodecanese. You can moor in a town harbour with well protected berths.

The yachts will moor stern-to. Depending of the direction of the wind, there can be some swell in the marina. Note, that the water depth rapidly increases, even within the harbour. Towards the entrance, the depth increases from 20m up to 40m within a short range. Keep an eye at the water depth while finding a good place to anchor.

As usual here, you will not find any washing rooms or similar infrastructure.

[edit] Tips

  • Restaurant Mythos - at the south side of the harbour, quite far in the east, there is a small restaurant. You can moor nearly directly in front of it. The food is brilliant. For €21 per person you can buy an "all-you-can-eat"-menu, which is really great ([last update: 10/2004]).
  • Warning: at forenoon, ferries arrive at Symi with masses of tourists. The tourists flood the otherwise quiet town. The good message is, that the ferries will bring back the tourists in the afternoon, the town will get quiet again
  • Various anchorages and beaches can be found at the east coast of Symi. The anchorage ground is sand, sometimes with stones. In the summer you have to be prepared for gusts from the mountains.
