The coast between Stavanger and Haugesund is dominated by large, deep cut fjords. There, you also can find the most popular fjord of Norway: the Lysefjord. This fjord draws many kilometres into the inland, cliffy rock faces towers many hundred meters at both sides. The Preikestolen, a platform at 600m above the fjord can be ascended.
The passage from Stavanger to Haugesund requires a short trip through the open North Sea (in difference to Haugesund to Bergen, where the complete passage inside the skerry belt is possible). You can pass the Karmsound, the channel at Haugesund to stay longer in protected waters. Especially in the north of the Karmsound you must expect strong tidal streams with speed up to 3kn.
