The Northern Ionian consists of the area from the "Far Away" islands north of Corfu to the Lefkas Canal and includes the Gulf of Amvrakia.
The area is alleged to be windier than the Southern Ionian with longer passages between harbours. It is said to be quieter than the south too.
It is an area of considerable contrast, from the lively Corfu Town, Preveza and Parga to the quiet harbour of Mongonisi on Paxos, there should be something for everyone in this beautiful area.
You need to keep an eye out for large vessels and high speed ferries. Anchoring, especially for overnight stops, should take ferry wash into account.
