From SkipperGuide, the online cruising guide for sailing areas around the world
This section of the Norwegian coast is heavily fragmented by fjords and a wide skerry belt with numerous skerries and belts. The hills are covered with dark coniferous forest or exposing a cragged scenic. The mountains are 1000+m high. Here, sailing in high mountains is possible. From Haugesund, a protected passage to Bergen inside the skerry belt is possible. Getting southwards, e.g. to Stavanger, the protected skerry belt must be left to the open North Sea. 13 nm south-westwards from Haugesund there is the island Utsira which names this waters.
