Gulf Yachting Association
From SkipperGuide, the online cruising guide for sailing areas around the world
The Gulf Yachting Association (GYA) was originally formed in 1901 to promote the sport of yacht racing along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico from Texas to Florida. Originally consisting of six Yacht Clubs, membership has grown to number over thirty organizations.
The GYA is a member of the United States Sailing Association.
During Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, a full 17 member clubs were destroyed. Yet yacht racing participation has continued as the clubs rebuild.
