[edit] Sailing
Cyclades is very promising for sailing and is full of nice secluded anchorages within small distance. Special care should be taken during the summer months of the meltemi winds which blow usually during the months of July and August from North, north east directions and can reach the force of 9.
Most harbors are well sheltered from North winds, while several might not be so protected from the rare blowing south winds. Infrastructure is not the strong point of the Cyclades islands so you should be prepared for limited amenities: Shore power and mooring lines are usually not available, while diesel and water is usually supplied by private trucks. Grocery shopping is widely available. On the other hand the beauty of the landscape and the picturesque tavernas make up for all the missing comforts. Mooring costs are usually not applied, but even in the rare cases that the local authorities will ask for the nominal fee, it is very low.
